This is a true story of a chance encounter that happened back in 2006.
I, Kelvin Ramirez, live in South Florida and drove up to West Palm Beach with my girlfriend, Dayanna Guerrero, to see my best friend and his girlfriend for a double date. We took his car and went to have dinner. We then headed back to where my car was, his house in West Palm Beach.
We took I-95 and on the way there I was talking to my girlfriend when I noticed a car on the side of the road and a woman practically doing jumping jacks to get someones attention. We were all the way on the left lane and the stranded car was in the emergency lane on the far right side. Funny thing is there was a highway patrol officer who passed to our right, right past the poor woman. I looked back and no one was stopping, not even slowing down.
My friends girlfriend noticed as well and she felt bad and said we should go help her. My friend is a firefighter and my girlfriend was good with cars and we agreed it was better for us to go help than God knows what other creep. So we got off the nearest exit, made a U-turn, drove down the highway, made another U-turn and pulled over.
There was no one in the car, or at least from what we could tell. As we got closer we looked inside and there was a very tired and upset woman sitting in the car. She apparently ran out of gas and needed help but no one would stop. She had a cellphone but it died and so did her car battery from having her hazard lights on for too long.
We gave her a cellphone to call the tow truck because she called before but her phone died 2 hours ago and no one showed. We got to introducing ourselves and what we do for living to pass time as we waited for the tow truck. Turns out she said she makes music.
But not just any kind of music….
ELECTRONIC MUSIC!!!
My heart raced. She then proceeded to tell me her name….
ROBIN FOX!
Needless to say I was stunned. Yeah she hasn’t made a song in a while but I LOVE “I See Stars“, “It’s Gonna Be Ok“, and my all time favorite, “Wonderland“. I even sang part of Wonderland with her.
So we waited and talked and she told me about the industry and her not so pleasant experiences with Robbins record label and that she is making a new song, etc. As my part of the reward for helping her out I got a bunch of Robin Fox flier’s from different clubs over the years and she even signed one for me.
The tow truck finally got there, gave her gas, gave her a jump then had to back up and give us a jump because we left the hazards on too long and our battery died.
She thanked us all and was very grateful and gave her number to my girlfriend and they still keep in contact every once in a while to this day.
And that’s my story!
